Spring
Grove has designated the Spring Grove Area Ambulance for
emergency basic life support (BLS) services responding
to 911 calls within the borough boundaries. The Spring
Grove ambulance is housed along with the fire vehicles
in Friendship Hose Company No. 1 on South Main Street.
The ambulance club maintains two fully equipped state
licensed ambulances which are staffed 24 hours a day
with a combination of volunteers and paid staff. In
2009, the Spring Grove Ambulance responded to over 150
emergency calls in the borough. Our ambulance service is
a not for profit organization.
Advanced
life support (ALS) services are provided by paramedics
from Hanover Hospital’s Medic 46. For emergency calls
requiring ALS, the Spring Grove Area Ambulance and Medic
46 will be dispatched jointly.
Ambulance service is not a free municipal service.
Tax dollars from the
municipalities served by the Spring Grove Area Ambulance
comprise less than 10 % of the annual operating budget.
The majority of the operating costs are paid by billing
the patient for the services provided. Health insurance
may not always pay the entire bill and the patient is
responsible for any remaining balance or co-pay.
The
Spring Grove Area Ambulance offers an annual membership
for interested individuals and households. Members are
not responsible for any out of pocket emergency
ambulance expenses. The amount paid by the insurance
company is considered payment in full for the ambulance
services. Ambulance memberships are valid from June 1st
through May 31st of the following year. New
for 2010 is the option to also include membership for
Medic 46 ALS services. Membership applications will be
mailed to all borough addresses in May, 2010. You can
